Rent a car: Gran Canaria and its sights
With a coastline that stretches over 60 km and with more than 80 beaches, you certainly won't be short of places to lounge in the sun. Most beaches can be found in the south of the island, with the best known probably being Maspalomas. Another highly recommended beach is Playa del Ingles, or 'Englishman's beach'. Visit here to stroll along the promenade and shop in various boutiques or to enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many restaurants. Thrill seekers will be glad to know that this is also a great spot for enjoying water sports such as jet skiing.
Right in the centre of the island you will find Pozo de las Nieves, which at 1949 m is the highest peak on the island. Getting around Gran Canaria
When you opt for car rental in Gran Canaria, note that the driving rules are the same as in mainland Spain. The speed limit on motorways is 120 km/h whilst it is 50 km/h in the towns. When it the differs from this, it is clearly signposted. Driving is on the right in Gran Canaria and it's prohibited to park on white or yellow lines. If you see a blue line you can park there but you will need to buy a ticket. Bear in mind that the police are very strict when it comes to handling your phone whilst driving. Finally, children under the age of twelve may not sit in the front seat unless they are taller than a 150 cm and it is compulsory for all passengers to use seat belts in the front and the back.
